(RE)PROCESS ; a collaboration between humans and worms
(Re)process is an ongoing project in which I am housing worms and feeding them organic material; leftover table scraps, paper, etc. Much of this material comes as a donation from friends and neighbors. I’m keeping an ongoing log of worm food and donors. As the worms process the materiel into soil, I am giving people portions of the dirt to use as they please and am documenting it’s use. A full record of the process is being kept here online.
Worms are the intestines of the earth. They tirelessly turn detritus into fertile soil, the basic substance from which vegetation grows. They are fundamental participants in the existence of life on this planet. Vermicomposting is a husbandry relationship between humans and worms. Humans employ worms to digest their organic waste such as table scraps and paper matter. This process yields nutrient rich soil.
I have started a relationship with worms as sculptural activity in order to visually manifest evidence of life. The transfer of energy between worms, plants, humans becomes an activity in which I am consciously participating in. Through keeping a log of everything that is feed to the worms and from where it came, I am rendering an overlooked web of transformations visible.
